Be the Change You Want to See in the World" - Ghandi
Welcome to a year long service learning project to help you realize your own potential to help your family, the community, our state or our world! Being a problem solver is an important skill these days, and combined with the gift of helping others makes this project a "win-win" situation! Think of something that you consider to be a problem. It could be rather small. For example, you see that your elderly neighbor doesn't get many visitors or often seems sad and you wish to help them. It could be a larger issue, such as you'd like to help animals at the local shelter because you see that they don't have many toys to play with or they are old and torn. Perhaps you even have a colossal idea, like creating an invention to better the lives of others....
The point is, we would like for you to make life better in some way. Check out the links below to give you some ideas. When you have decided, click on the "Be The Change Forms" link below. If you can't answer the questions, then you may need to choose a different project. You may also be working on a current project for another club or organization that you want to expand. As you progress through the questions you will notice that you'll have to THINK about WHO will be affected by your action(s), HOW they will be affected and the METHODS you plan on using on a monthly basis to improve this problem. You will be required to provide monthly evidence of your progress. Evidence is something you can "prove" or show that you are working toward making this problem better or by fixing it completely. This project will stretch from September-April. As the culminating activity, you will be required to present the project to the class. This could be in the form of a video documenting the journey, a storyboard, a slide show, live demonstration, etc. This will be a major part of your Social Studies grade in the fourth term. We will be sending home questions each month in a large envelope for you to record you progress and attach your evidence.
PLEASE KEEP THIS ENVELOPE ALL YEAR!
Take some time to discuss ideas with family members because, in some cases, it may require cooperation from them. We will need your final idea and the first set of completed questions by SEPTEMBER 28, 2015, so take your time and make a good choice. If you find a good idea right away, don't hesitate to get started....the sooner the better so you can
